What is a polymer primer?

Polymer primer - a material intended for use in the construction industry. The primer is a milky liquid (this is clearly visible in the photo). The product has a mild odor that does not cause discomfort even during the use of the product as directed. The primer has a unique composition in which there are special particles that provide adhesion to the coating, as well as determining the characteristics of the primer.

Primer Properties

Here are the primer properties:

  • connects the remains of dust and pollution on the processed surface;
  • guarantees strong adhesion of the base and coating;
  • possesses fire resistance, moisture resistance and resistance to other liquids and substances, including acids and salts;
  • fills in small defects in the material;
  • facilitates plastering.

Composition benefits

Advantages of the primer over similar formulations:

  • the particles that make up the product have a long service life compared to other primer bases;
  • polymers are highly resistant to mechanical damage;
  • the primer increases fire safety indoors, where the composition was used due to refractory properties;
  • does no harm to health;
  • dries quickly;
  • easy to apply;
  • protects the building base from moisture due to the formation of an impermeable film on the surface.

The only drawback of the polymer primer is the lack of antibacterial properties. This means that the primer does not protect the surface from the appearance and development of mold and fungus.

Scope and expense

Polymer primer is mainly used on cement-concrete and asphalt surfaces. Therefore, the composition is intended for use both indoors and outdoors.

Some varieties of this primer are used in various fields. So, the polymer primer type bolix o is used for surface treatment before applying acrylic and mineral plasters. Mostly this primer is used for priming concrete foundations, aerated concrete and brick walls, gypsum, cement-lime and cement plasters and gypsum boards.

Polymer colzumix primer is used for adhesion of asphalt and concrete. The primer is also used in the seams of the pavement to provide adhesion to the walls and sealants.

Primer consumption is indicated on the packaging. Usually it is 0.10-0.15 kg per square meter, if the primer is applied in one coat. Accordingly, if a two-layer coating is performed, the consumption increases to 0.20-0.30 kg per square meter. m

Primer Application Rules

You can primer the surface with a polymer primer with your own hands, without resorting to professional masters. Below is a completely understandable instruction on the use of the composition, having carefully studied which some errors can be avoided.

Every video lesson will show that at the first stage the processed surface is freed from old materials. In addition, the base is cleaned of dirt, grease, mold, bending, etc. Then the surface is left to dry.Only then is primer applied.

Preparing the floor for priming

The polymer primer is sold ready-made, which means that water is not added to the composition, and the product is immediately used for its intended purpose. Before use, the primer must be thoroughly mixed. The primer is applied to the surface in three ways - with a brush, roller or by spraying with a spray gun. The tool does not affect the uniformity of application, therefore, when choosing it, they are guided by personal preferences. The primer is applied in 2 layers. The second coating is performed only after the first layer has dried. Work is carried out at temperatures from +5 to +250 C. Such a climate is maintained indoors until the applied composition has completely dried. A change in temperature negatively affects the properties of the primer.

Since the polymer primer is used in various fields, the drying time of the composition depends on where it is used. The average value for any conditions is 60 minutes. However, if we are talking about using a primer for finishing, then the drying time of the polymer primer in this case is at least 6 hours, maximum 24 hours.

How to properly primed walls is shown in the video.

Storage conditions

It is recommended to store the primer at a temperature of +5 to +250 C. Shelf life - 1 year from the date of manufacture of the composition. Store the primer in a closed, undamaged bucket. Subcooling or heating of the composition should not be allowed.

The colzumix primer has different storage conditions. The shelf life of such a product is 2 years from the date of manufacture. Keep the composition only in a closed, undamaged bucket in a cool place away from sunlight.

Cost

The price of a polymer primer directly depends on the manufacturer. German brand primers have a high cost. The average price for such a primer is 600 rubles. A much cheaper primer from Russian manufacturers. The average cost is 300 rubles, while the quality of the composition is not inferior to German products.

A polymer primer is a type of primer that contains substances of the same name. It is easy to apply, therefore its use does not cause problems if the treated surface is properly prepared for priming.
