What should be the lining of the bathroom: floor, walls, ceiling? The choice of finishing method is carried out from its design features. It matters: a separate bathroom, or combined, what is its area and configuration.
Many do not even realize that the options for lining the toilet, and even more so its design, can be as varied as in any other room. In this article, we will give some good ideas for decorating the toilet room, and talk about how to bring them to life - and the examples given throughout the story will help us with this.

Finish sequence

Bathrooms are classified as wet rooms. This cannot be denied, but only when it comes to bathroom or a combined bathroom of a small area.
There steam forms from hot water, and heavy condensate. Therefore, for their decoration choose materials that are completely not susceptible to moisture and elevated temperatures. Most often, this is either tile or plastic.
So:

  • In a separate toilet there is no such problem, the main thing there is an airtight floor, since there is always a chance of leakage of pipes. Moreover, the riser, where water is drained from both bathrooms, is located in this room.
Lining the walls in the toilet can do without expensive tiles and commonplace plastic. They can be trimmed and more diverse, but much depends on the initial state of the walls.
  • In any case, the work begins with preparation, here we will begin our story. To determine the list of work that should be done, you need to determine the design in advance.
Surface cleaning is performed at the same time. Next, a rough finish is made in the sequence ceiling - walls - floor, and then, in the same order, decorative coatings are installed.

Brickwork finish

Let's say you do toilet finish in a brick or block house. If this is a new building, and the walls were not previously plastered, you may well design a toilet in the architectural style of a loft.
Its calling card is unplastered surfaces, and the texture of masonry never goes out of fashion at all.
So:

  • And even if it is not possible to decorate natural masonry, you can use any other material with a similar relief. The prepared brick wall can be painted - and you will get a beautiful interior.
It is necessary to emphasize its individuality with interesting fixtures and fixtures of an unusual shape. Such a design looks great not only in a large, but also in a small room, and you can see this by looking at the photo below.

  • The preparation of the walls in this case comes down to cleaning the surface of the adhering mortar, and a small deepening of the joints, which will make their surface more embossed. The order of performance of a particular work must be determined logically.
If you will putty the ceiling, then you need to clean the masonry after the alignment is completed. The next step is waterproofing and rough flooring.
  • Having a concrete slab at the base, this is easiest to do. There are many deep penetration impregnations on sale now.
Take the universal option, which is suitable for both concrete and brick. Prime the concrete base and immediately brick the walls.
  • Next, you will need fiberglass self-adhesive tape.As soon as the soil dries, glue the joints of the walls and the floor, after which you can do it leveling.
As a decorative floor finishes traditionally use ceramic tiles or stone - and rightly so. Tile flooring can only be ensured by tiled flooring, and it requires a carefully leveled base.

  • For this purpose, of course, you can make the solution yourself, but what's the point? It is much more convenient to take the finished dry mixture, dilute it with water, as required by the manufacturer’s instructions, and you can pour it yourself.
In such compositions there are additives that make the solution unusually plastic, enhance its water-repellent properties, and improve adhesion to the base.
  • After pouring the floor, you have to wait for it to fully harden. Usually, it’s two to three days.
The final flooring is laid after the finishing of the room is completely completed. When the rough floor is ready, you can proceed to finish the ceiling, and then the walls.

By the way, for the finishing of brickwork, you can not use ordinary water-dispersion paint, but some kind of decorative option. Thanks to the use of texture paint, you can get a surface with the effect of silk, velvet, sand or nacre.
Believe me, such a finish will not leave anyone indifferent - and the price will not be too high. But, a similar design is possible only when the masonry is new.

Combination Finish

If the brick walls were previously plastered, it is almost impossible to make high-quality preparation for such a finish, which we just talked about. Sometimes it is necessary to beat off old plaster with the help of a perforator, potholes remain on the brick.
But, you can make a new alignment and paint the screed, highlighting one of the walls with a fundamentally different design.
So:

  • For example, wood-polymer panels with a 3D effect is an excellent lining for the walls of the toilet, as you can see by looking at the picture below. If a decision is made in favor of painting and panelingIt is necessary to make high-quality alignment.
When using plaster, take cement-based mixes, especially if the toilet is combined with the bathroom.

  • You can even out the walls in a dry way, by lining with moisture-proof drywall. But if the toilet is already so small, why else take up space from it? In this case, it is better to plaster the walls.
Or, if they have old stucco on them - clean out what is not holding well and putty on. But how to paint the walls so as to add variety, and the room was not monotonous?
  • If you decide to highlight one wall, then it should be a contrast to the rest of the finish. It can be not only volumetric panels, but also decorative rock, linkcrust, bamboo wallpaper, ceramic tiles with beautiful relief or mosaic panels.
If the room is spacious enough, having design features in the form of piers, columns or niches, two or three shades from one color scale can be used in wall decoration.
  • Below is an example where the combined bathroom with the lining of one wall with relief material is shown, and the rest of the walls are painted. One cannot but agree that such a finish is very harmonious, pleasing to the eye and expresses the belonging of this interior to the modern minimalism style.

  • Many people are convinced that it is impossible to use paint in bathrooms, since it will peel off from moisture. We hasten to dispel doubts: now there are acrylic, latex and silicone paints that are not afraid not only of water, but also of abrasive substances. The same can be said about wallpapers, which, due to prejudice, do not often participate in the design of a bathroom or toilet.
  • Nevertheless, we will offer you an example where the wall cladding in the bathroom is made with this particular material. In the toilet, in any case, in a small one, wallpaper can be glued over the entire height. The lining of bathrooms and toilets combined must, nevertheless, be carried out with the participation of tiles, at least partially.

  • See how interestingly the lining of the walls of the bathroom was done in our next example. At the bottom of the wall, large-format ceramic tiles without a pattern were used.
It is laid in two rows, between which a narrow decor is launched. The tiles are dark, matched to the flooring.
But in the upper part of the walls, in bright red tones, expensive silk wallpapers with embossed patterns were used. The plumbing design complements the color of the tile, with a golden ornament - it turned out very unusual and stylish.
  • High-quality ceramic tile is a rather expensive material. In addition, the work on its installation is the most time-consuming. Therefore, it is often used in combination with other types of finishes - for walls along which pipes stretch, plumbing is located.
  • This can be not only the lining of the toilets with tiles to the middle of the wall, but also the design of one wall from floor to ceiling. In this case, the tile is selected with a beautiful decor that stands out against the background of the neutral painted remaining surfaces.

  • Tiles are laid only on a well-aligned base. This is either a cement screed or dry leveling, which can be performed not only with drywall, but also with cement-bonded or magnesite slabs. They can also sew up the space under the bathroom, and also tile it.
  • If you take into account that the rough screed of the floor has already been made, then the wall cladding should be done at such a distance from its surface that the floor covering fits in thickness.
To do this, a start profile is mounted on the wall, on which the first row of tiles will rest. Facing is carried out, starting from the corner, so that the most visible places are whole tiles.
  • The missing fragments are usually mounted at the door and window openings. For those who do this for the first time, the best assistant will be the video.
In general, tiles for toilet and bathroom, is the most used material. And, of course, when decorating the interiors of these rooms, different types of tiles are combined in form, color and texture. Moreover, manufacturers offer various decors and panels to all collections.

Of course, the ceramic wall decoration of the bathroom does not end there. This can be a natural stone cladding, and lining with a laminate or facade board, mosaic finish, cork coating.
In the last example, you see the designer wall decoration of the bathroom with tree bark. As you can see, imagination can be shown not only in the decoration of the living room or bedroom, but also in the design of such a room as a toilet room.

When finishing, you must not forget to leave access to the valves and counters. I had to redo one wall because of forgetfulness.
