Users who install plastic windows in the house believe that the structures will last for several decades and there will be no need to change or restore the frames. This usually happens, but expectations are not always met, and the appearance of the windows changes. If this happens, it is not recommended to rush with the installation of a new frame. Plastic windows are subject to restoration in the same way as wooden frames, but when painting such a foundation, there are some nuances.

Reasons for staining plastic windows
PVC windows are painted for the following reasons:
- yellow spots appeared on the finish or the surface changed color;
- defects appeared on the building base - scratches, cracks and others;
- there was a change in the interior, in which white windows do not fit;
- users have a desire to change the color of the design.

Paint selection
There are several types of paints for plastic windows:
- Acrylic compounds. For decoration, it is recommended to use a tool that is specifically designed for a plastic surface. Such a product is easy to apply, lays evenly and forms an attractive coating with a glossy sheen on the surface. The material dries quickly and has an affordable cost.
- Polyurethane products. Such products have improved technical characteristics - moisture resistance, frost resistance and increased strength. Windows coated with polyurethane paint are washed with cleaning agents. The disadvantage is the high price.
- Spray for painting car parts. Such material is also used for plastic windows. The paint is simply sprayed onto the surface of the can structure.
- Acrylic lacquer. This product is recommended to be used to give the finish a shine. The product does not mask defects and does not change color, but creates reliable surface protection against mechanical damage.
When choosing a product, it is important to look not only at the mark “intended for polyvinyl chloride”, but also “it is recommended to use paint for exterior decoration”. Material for internal restoration of the frame is used only if painting is carried out only on that part of the structure that is located indoors.
Finish conditions
To get a good finishing result and a solid foundation with a long period of operation, it is recommended to perform restoration of the structure at an air temperature of +5 to +300C. Wet cleaning should be done before staining. Plastic attracts dust and if you cover the surface with a layer of paint, a tubercle forms, which will spoil the appearance of the finish. For the same reason, it is recommended to carry out restoration of the structure in calm weather.
Materials and Tools
To color the windows you will need:
- paint;
- primer for PVC;
- plastic cleanser;
- a wash to remove old paint;
- container for dispensing paint and primer;
- putty knife;
- set of brushes;
- masking tape.
Stain preparation
If staining is performed for the first time, then the paint is not dismantled. In the event that the window was previously treated with paint, it is recommended to remove the material. To do this, use a special plastic wash. Surface finish and interrupt work.The instruction that is indicated on the package contains information on how much time is required for exposure to the product. After that, the paint is removed with a spatula.
When the old coating is removed, treat the base with a dirt repellent. Such a product will clean the surface of contaminants, remove static electricity and remove stains of fat.
Primer application
After preparing the surface of the frame, treat with a primer (as in the photo below). To do this, use a brush. Primed window is recommended with a special material that is intended for PVC. The product will improve the adhesion of the building base and paint. Apply one coat of primer and let dry.
Staining technique
If an amateur does the coloring of a plastic window with his own hands, then you should carefully study the rules for applying paint:
- apply masking tape to the glass near the frame to protect against paint;
- paint the surface so that a thin layer is obtained.

Can colored windows be painted?
Colored plastic windows, like white structures, can be painted, but there are some nuances. Before restoration, an acrylic film is applied to the surface. After that, paint of any shade is used.
