Protection of gates and utilities from frost

 

In winter, in most of Russia, soil freezes to a depth of 0.8 to 2.5 meters. PENOPLEX FOUNDATION will help to protect underground structures and utilities from freezing and frost heaving®. Frosty swelling is an increase in the volume of wet soil due to its freezing.

 

Gate protection

The occurrence of frost heaving depends on the type of soil, its physical and mechanical characteristics, climatic features, the level of groundwater and the type of foundation.

To avoid frost heaving, the support of the foundation of the fence is deepened by 30-40 cm, and the heaving soil is replaced by a soil pillow. To prevent freezing of the soil and pressure on the supports, a layer of durable and moisture-resistant thermal insulation is laid.

PENOPLEX FOUNDATION® made of extruded polystyrene foam possesses qualities that are important for underground structures: the compressive strength at 10% linear deformation is at least 0.3 MPa (30 t / m2), water absorption is practically zero, the material is biostable with high heat-shielding characteristics - the thermal conductivity is 0.034 W / m ∙ ° С.

All technical properties of PENOPLEX FOUNDATION® unchanged throughout the entire life cycle - more than 50 years. The plates are orange.

Fence device with heat-insulating skirt made of PENOPLEX BASE® includes:

 

  • site preparation;
  • pit device under supports with a width of at least the dimensions of the horizontal projection of thermal insulation;
  • filling the foundation pit with non-porous soil (soil cushion) to the level of the sole;
  • laying of a heat-insulating skirt made of PENOPLEX FOUNDATION boards® on the surface of the soil cushion;
  • installation of the foundation on the surface of insulation boards;
  • backfilling of the pit sinuses with non-porous soil (soil cushion) and tamping;
  • Blind device.

 

 

Water supply and sanitation with PENOPLEX FOUNDATION®

Pipelines for water supply and sanitation, tanks, septic tanks, drainage systems for the removal of infiltrated and groundwater may fail in winter at low ambient temperatures. This is especially true for structures placed above the freezing depth and pipes of small diameter.

PENOPLEX FOUNDATION will help prevent emergencies®. Plates made of high-quality extruded polystyrene foam have almost zero water absorption, high strength and durability, resistance to aggressive environments and low coefficient of thermal conductivity.

So, the base of the pipeline is placed on a prepared sand and gravel cushion in the freezing zone of the soil; usually the laying depth is not more than 1 m. Next, the trench is covered with a sand-gravel mixture, the PENOPLEX BASE slabs are laid® followed by backfill and finish coating device. The minimum height of the protective layer on top of PENOPLEX FOUNDATION® must be at least 0.3 m.
